To help make housing and successful homeownership affordable to low and moderate-income Colorado people by offering programs that:

  • Prevent displacement of long term neighborhood residents

  • Introduce innovative ways to mobilize private and public investment to achieve these goals.

Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation (CHAC)

Was founded in 1982 as a 501©(3), not-for-profit agency. Our focus is HOMEOWNERSHIP. We have a variety of programs and services that include:

  • Since 1982, we have assisted more than 10,000 first-time homebuyers with down payments and closing costs.
  • Since 1982, we have helped nearly 1,500 families save their homes from foreclosure.
  • Homebuyer and Home Ownership Education
  • Homebuyer and Home Ownership Counseling
  • Pre Purchase, Post Purchase, Default and Foreclosure prevention counseling.
  • Financial Assistance for low-income first-time homebuyers.
  • Mortgage Assistance: To help with the cash required to close. For down payment and closing costs.
  • Foreclosure Prevention: To help families who are delinquent make up past due payments.
  • Loan Servicing: We process payments on the loans we have made and on loans made by other agencies.
  • Technical Assistance and Training
  • We help other agencies design and provide programs that focus on homeownership, affordable and sustainable housing.

CHAC exists to help make home-ownership affordable to those with low to moderate incomes.

History

In 1982, with leadership and financial commitments from the Piton Foundation, Colorado Housing, and Finance Authority, Colorado Division of Housing, City of Denver, and the Ford Foundation’s Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the Denver Family Housing Corporation, (DFHC) was created.

Formed as a 501c(3) nonprofit agency, the volunteer Board of Directors was committed to increasing homeownership opportunities for lower-income families. In 1986, Denver Family Housing expanded its program area to include the entire State of Colorado and in 1987 changed the name to Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation.

Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation, CHAC, is certified as a Local Development Corporation under Section 502 of the Small Business Development Act of 1958.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development determined that CHAC meets the intent of 24 CFR 570.204 and qualifies as an Eligible Community Development Organization to carry our neighborhood-based community development and revitalization activities.

CHAC received certification from the US Department of the Treasury as a Certified Community Development Financial Institution, (CDFI) CHAC is a designated HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency.
